Dept. head charged in domestic violence incident

by Wes Mayer

A Coweta County government department head is on voluntary leave after being arrested in Senoia last week following a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend.

On March 16, around 8:25 p.m., Officer Chance Leveillard with the Senoia Police Department responded to the 100-block of Baggarly Way in reference to a family violence call. According to Leveillard’s report, he met with the victim, who was sitting in her car holding her 13-month-old son. The victim told Leveillard she called 911 after she got into a fight with her ex-boyfriend, Tray Baggarly, 49.

Baggarly is director of Coweta County Events Services and oversees the Coweta Visitors Center in the Coweta County Courthouse.

The victim said she arrived at the home to gather some things for her and her son, and got into a fight with Baggarly. The fight then became physical, and Baggarly threw her onto the ground while she was holding their 13-month-old son, Leveillard said. The victim then managed to get away by throwing some ceramic pots, locked herself in her vehicle and contacted authorities. Leveillard did notice some scratches on the victim’s right wrist, and the child was not injured.

Leveillard also spoke to Baggarly inside the home, and Baggarly said he was lying in bed when the victim came to the home acting crazy and began throwing and breaking things. At one point, the victim struck him in the head, Baggarly said, and he also contacted 911. Leveillard did not see any visible marks on Baggarly’s head, but he did smell an odor of alcohol on Baggarly’s breath.

Leveillard placed Baggarly in handcuffs and charged him with simple battery under the family violence act, and he was transported to the Coweta County Jail.

According to Patricia Palmer, director of Coweta County Community and Human Resources, Baggarly requested a leave of absence from his position following the arrest.
