Two people were injured in an accident Monday, and the road was closed to through traffic while authorities worked the scene.

Around 2:37 p.m., a Mazda Miata driven by Darius Ryjhon Whited, 19, was heading southbound on Lora Smith Road when the driver lost control and struck a Ford Expedition. According to authorities with the Georgia State Patrol, the driver of the Expedition was injured and transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital, and the passenger in the Miata was also injured and transported to the Atlanta Medical Center.

Both vehicles came to a stop facing northbound on Lora Smith Road, with the Expedition mostly off the road. The Expedition appeared to have collided head-on with the passenger’s side of the Miata.
