The Coweta County Fire Department responded to a single-story structure fire in the Hearthstone neighborhood south of Newnan on Wednesday.

Around 12:30 p.m., 20 fire personnel from stations 1, 4, 5, 8 and 16 arrived at 160 Hearthstone Drive to find the back corner of its attic involved in flames, said Fire Captain Craig Sherrer. According to Sherrer, all occupants were out of the home by the time firefighters arrived thanks to a neighbor who saw the smoke, knocked on their door and warned them about the fire.

Firefighters set up a drafting operation — deploying a water reservoir on the ground because there were no fire hydrants in the neighborhood — and made an aggressive interior attack on the fire, Sherrer said.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the attic where it originated and ultimately saved around 70 percent of the home.

There were no injuries among fire personnel or the homeowners, Sherrer said, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
