School bus involved in minor traffic accident

Around 3:55 p.m. Monday near the Newnan city limits on Jackson Street, a Coweta school bus transporting 26 high school students was stopped in traffic when it was rear-ended by a Ford sports utility vehicle. 


A Coweta County School System bus transporting Newnan High School students was involved in a two-vehicle fender-bender Monday afternoon — no one was injured in the accident.

The accident occurred around 3:55 p.m. near the Newnan city limits on Jackson Street near the Woodtrail Apartments, said Dean Jackson, public information officer with the Coweta school system. Bus 132-14, transporting 26 high school students, was stopped in traffic when it was rear-ended by a Ford sports utility vehicle.

There was no damage to the rear of the bus, according to Jackson. Two other school buses arrived to help transport students who were delayed in getting home. By the time officers completed the accident report, all three buses transported the students home.

According to Jackson, in the case of an accident involving a school bus, the bus driver first contacts the dispatch line at the school system’s transportation department, and officials then contact law enforcement and emergency personnel. Representatives of the transportation department and school system’s central office also responded to the scene.
