A man suspected of assaulting his girlfriend with a pocket knife was arrested by Coweta County deputies on Thursday.

At 9:43 p.m., deputies with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100-block of Sweetbriar Drive in Palmetto in reference to an assault, said Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough with the sheriff’s office.

Authorities found the victim at the residence, who said she had managed to escape her assailant and boyfriend, Danny Ray Brock, 45. According to Yarbrough, the victim said Brock came into the home drunk and arguing about fidelity issues. When things turned violent, Brock pulled the victim by her hair, hit her in the face with closed fists and cut her with a small pocket knife, striking her in the wrists, Yarbrough said. The victim was able to escape outside, but was caught by Brock, who threw her down and kicked her in the stomach. Fortunately, the victim was able to escape to a neighbor’s home and called 911.

The victim’s face was swollen and there were minor cuts on her wrists, Yarbrough said. Deputies were able to locate Brock across the street, and had a strong odor of alcohol and acted like he was asleep. Brock was transported to the Coweta County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a knife and battery, and he had a warrant for his arrest for a violation of probation.
