A man suspected of being involved in a shooting last week was arrested Monday by authorities with the Newnan Police Department.
Dekarri Marveno Ruffin, 21, was located at the Stay Lodge hotel on Millard Farmer Industrial Boulevard, said Sgt. Beatrice Bugg. There, he was charged with aggravated assault and taken into custody without incident.
The shooting occurred last Wednesday night in an apartment on Christian Drive. According to a report from Officer Clifton White, officers arrived to find the victim lying against the living room wall with a gunshot wound to his abdomen and possibly another gunshot wound near his upper right underarm. Emergency responders arrived and treated the victim on scene.
The victim was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, underwent surgery and was placed in the Intensive Care Unit, Bugg said.
According to White’s report, officers spoke with witnesses in the apartment and were able to determine there were two suspects. The victim’s girlfriend told officers she was in the kitchen when the two male suspects arrived. The victim answered the door, invited the two men inside and a fight erupted a few minutes later. The victim’s girlfriend told officers she heard two gunshots, and the suspects fled out the door.
The victim’s girlfriend was able to identify one of the suspects as Dekarri, according to White, and she told officers what both suspects were wearing. Another witness also told officers the suspects fled in a small silver or gray vehicle.
Bugg said detectives were unable to locate a firearm in Ruffin’s room, and authorities are still searching for the second suspect.
