Christmas shines at Light Up Senoia event

Saturday's Light Up Senoia event, including the Christmas Parade and visit from Santa, was a great success, as was Sunday's Candlelight Tour of Homes.
Saturday's threat of rain didn't materialize, and Light Up Senoia proceeded without a hitch. The event featured a food court, Santa's Workshop, activities for the kids and other entertainment, as well as the annual parade and tree lighting.
The parade started at 5:30, so many floats — and even some walkers — were outfitted with Christmas lights.
"I think the floats were better this year than they have ever seen," said Suzanne Helfman of the Senoia Downtown Development Authority, which hosts the annual Christmas celebration. "We had some people comment on it. There were really some impressive floats," she said.
A few registered parade participants decided not to come because of the threat of rain Saturday. "Which is understandable," Helfman said. But there were still 42 entries in the parade.
"We had a lot of positive comments, people saying they look forward to it every year," she said. "It's just something that never disappoints."
This year was the first time Light Up Senoia and the tour of homes were held on the same weekend. The DDA sold more than 400 tour tickets on Saturday, Helfman said. The tour was well-attended, and "we escaped the rain for that, too. It started raining 20 minutes after it was over."
"We had a great turnout, and people enjoyed it."
