Santa and Mrs. Claus get waves from the crowd at the 2012 Light Up Senoia parade. This year’s parade is today at 5:30 p.m., with pre-parade entertainment and food offerings starting at 4 p.m.

The eastern Coweta city of Senoia is gearing up for its big annual Light Up Senoia celebration and parade today, followed by a candlelight historic homes tour Sunday evening, and Grantville’s parade and tree lighting events begin at 4:30 today.

Senoia’s annual Light Up Senoia event runs from 4-8 p.m. downtown.

At 5:30 p.m. experience the magic of a wonderful Christmas parade complete with floats, the East Coweta High School Marching Band and Santa and Mrs. Claus. Attendees will be able to help them light the town’s Christmas tree after the parade, weather permitting. There will also be a Santa’s workshop.

If needed, Santa will move from his sleigh to his workshop to visit with area youngsters, said Suzanne Helfman of the Senoia Downtown Development Authority. “We have never been rained out. We’re still hoping for a little break, we only need about an hour for the parade,” Helfman said.

This year’s parade grand marshal is Hal Sewell.

— Grantville's annual Christmas parade is today at 4:30 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Grantville, followed by the city’s tree lighting.

Even with the forecast of 40 percent chance of precipitation, all the entries are set to go and the plan is to proceed, rain or shine, said Grantville business woman Rebecca Campbell.

Sunday brings Senoia’s annual Candlelight Tour of Homes from 5-8 p.m. Tour five historic homes and a historic church. Enjoy light refreshments at the Senoia Area Historical Society.

Tickets for the annual homes tour are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the tour. They may be purchased at several shops in town and at the Senoia Welcome Center. For further information on Senoia’s events call 770-378-6627 or 770-599-8182.
