Three vehicles wreck on Bullsboro

by Wes Mayer

Two drivers were injured in a three-vehicle accident on Bullsboro Drive Monday afternoon, and Newnan Police officers had to reroute traffic through a shopping center parking lot to clear the scene.

The accident occurred around 1 p.m. after the driver of a red 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo made an improper left turn at the intersection of Bullsboro Drive and Ashley Park Boulevard, said Traffic Sgt. Lane Yearta with the Newnan Police Department. According to Yearta, the driver of the Monte Carlo made a left turn toward the Big Lots-anchored Shenandoah Plaza shopping center at the light, but did not have a green arrow and drove into the path of a 2006 Isuzu NPR delivery truck.

The two vehicles collided, and the Monte Carlo was spun around in the road, Yearta said. The NPR delivery truck was forced into the right side of the road, where it struck a white Chevrolet Trailblazer sport utility vehicle in the driver’s side door and pushed it off Bullsboro Drive in front of the Krystal restaurant.

The drivers of the Trailblazer and the NPR truck were both transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital by ambulance, Yearta said, and the driver of the Trailblazer appeared to have the worst injuries. The driver of the Monte Carlo was not injured, and will face charges after officers have determined the severity of the other drivers’ injuries.

Westbound traffic was routed off Bullsboro Drive just before the intersection through the Shenandoah Plaza parking lot and back onto the roadway via the west shopping center exit.
