Smash and grab burglary suspect arrested

by Wes Mayer

A man suspected of a smash- and-grab burglary — driving through a gas station convenience store — was arrested Friday, authorities said.

Ronnie Shane Daniels was arrested by Coweta County criminal investigators. He later admitted to driving a vehicle through the glass front door of the Welcome Station on Welcome Road, said Investigator Jason Fetner with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. According to Fetner, using footage from the store’s security cameras, Daniels was recorded visiting the Welcome Station late Thursday.

A few hours later, between 12:30 and 1 a.m., wearing the same clothing, Daniels drove through the front door and stole four cartons of name-brand cigarettes from behind the counter, Fetner said.

After making the connection, Fetner said investigators served search warrants on Daniels’ home and vehicle and he was taken into custody. Investigators recovered one of the four cartons of cigarettes, but Daniels admitted to selling the other three for possibly cash or a ride, Fetner said.

Fetner said damage to the convenience store exceeded $500, making the crime a smash-and-grab burglary which has different penalties than burglary in the first, second or third degree.
