Driver's License center will be closed all week

The Newnan office of the Department of Drivers Services will be closed all week as crews work to repair damage done Friday when rain came through the roof of an adjacent unit and damaged the driver's license center.
It was originally hoped that the center could open Tuesday, but the damage was more extensive than originally thought.
"We have to do some renovation and repair," said Susan Sports, DDS spokeswoman.
Sports wanted to remind customers that many services are offered online, include change of address and lost license replacement. You can also submit some documents online, such as proof of residency and Social Security number. You can change your address online as long as there are more than 150 days before your license expires.
Sports said the DDS has recently increased the amount of information on the website, www.dds.georgia.gov . "We've just launched all the reinstatement information," she said. "A lot of people just come in to find out why they are suspended or what they have to do to get their licenses back," she said. You can find out fine amounts and even pay some fines online.
Driver history reports (MVRs) are also available online.
Nearby DDS service centers include Carrollton, at the AMS House at 512 Old Newnan Road, Fayetteville at 278 McElroy Road, and Forest Park, 5036 State Route 85.
Check www.dds.georgia.gov for updates on the status of the Newnan center. Updates will also be posted on times-herald.com as they become available.
