Traffic stop leads to marijuana arrest on I-85

A man was arrested for possession of marijuana Tuesday after a Coweta deputy pulled him over for not wearing a seat belt.
Around 2:20 p.m., at mile marker 41 on I-85, Deputy Troy Foles saw a driver traveling southbound not wearing his seat belt, said Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff's Office. Foles pulled over the vehicle, and when he approached the driver, Leon McCord Jackson, 23, he detected a strong odor of marijuana.
Jackson said he was only on his way to work and gave Foles consent to search the vehicle, Yarbrough said. Foles circled the vehicle with his K-9 unit, Ruger, and on the floorboard of the vehicle inside a backpack Foles and Ruger found four bags of marijuana.
Jackson was charged with the possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and a seat belt violation. He was also found to be driving on a suspended license.
