Arnco bridge reopens after needed repairs

by Sarah Fay Campbell

The wooden bridge on Arnco Main Street reopened Tuesday.

The bridge, over the Norfolk Southern rail line, was closed Feb. 4 following an inspection by the Georgia Department of Transportation that found rot and decay in the deck and the substructure.

After many months of discussion, Coweta County officials asked for a meeting with representatives of Norfolk Southern, which owns the bridge, and the Georgia Department of Transportation. The meeting was held in early September, and was designed to get the two entities together to formulate a plan of repair, according to Tom Corker, Coweta communications manager.
