Georgia State Patrol troopers investigate a serious accident on Highway 34 West at Powers Crossroads near the Heard County line. Drivers from both vehicles were transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital.

Update: Michael Noles, 27, died from his injuries Saturday afternoon, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The original story is below.

A man is in critical condition after being involved in a car accident Friday.

Around 5 p.m., the driver of a 2001 Nissan Cube, Hollie Hamilton, was stopped at the intersection of Charlie B. Johnston Road and Hwy. 34 West/Franklin Highway, attempting to turn left toward Franklin. According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Randolph Collins,

Hamilton pulled out, failing to yield to a 1988 Ford Crown Victorian driven by Michael Noles, traveling eastbound. Noles hit Hamilton when she pulled out, and both vehicles came to a rest blocking the intersection.

Noles’ injury is life threatening, Collins said, and Hamilton suffered several broken bones. Responding emergency personnel performed CPR on Noles, who was in cardiac arrest when they arrived. Noles was able to recover from cardiac arrest at the scene, but has not regained consciousness. Both were transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital by ambulance.

According to Collins, Noles may have suffered from a broken neck and other severe injuries. Around 8 p.m. he was transported to the Atlanta Medical Center by helicopter.

Charges are pending against Hamilton, Collins said.

An unopened bottle of alcohol was found in Hamilton’s vehicle, but there is no evidence she was impaired by alcohol at the time of the accident.
