Big Expo: 'A lot of fun ... a lot of information'
by Sarah Fay Campbell
An enthusiastic crowd turned out for the 2013 Newnan Coweta Chamber of Commerce Big Expo, held Thursday at the Summit YMCA.
Around 80 booths were set up by local businesses, industries, and organizations, including some from outside Coweta County.
Most were giving away goodies, from pens, bags, and candy to flashlights, backscratchers and several more distinctive promotional items.
Southern Crescent Women's Healthcare was giving free ankle bone density scans to women over age 40, and Crossroads Chiropractic was providing scans for pinched nerves and other problems in the upper spine.
And everybody was handing out information about their business.
'The expo is a great thing,' said Tracy Battle, who got to fill out her digital transition information with NuLink while at the expo. She and her family come almost every year. 'It's a lot of fun,' she said, and 'a lot of information.'
'It's a must for every business,' said Paula Hasberger of The Southern Federal Credit Union.
'I think it's great to expose people to what Newnan has to offer,' said Carmen Reddick, attending her first Big Expo. 'There's just a lot of helpful information.'
Reddick was particularly interested in the wealth of booths from health and wellness businesses and organizations. 'Health and wellness is a passion of mine,' she said. 'I'm always researching, always looking for more info on health and wellness, and sharing that info with anyone who will listen.'
The theme for this year's event was 'Rock Your World,' and some booths promoted that theme. Ansley Brumby and Ashley Stephens from Primecare Pediatrics had wigs and a karaoke machine. 'We have a rocking time at Primecare,' Brumby said.
Georgia Pain and Spine Care had more of a Hollywood movie premiere theme for its booth. Newnan Dodge Chrysler Jeep had a collection of guitars, and gave one away.
'I think it's a great event, it's great for the community,' said Mya Johnson of Georgia Pain and Spine Care.
Janet Chunn received a bone density scan. She's been coming to the Big Expo for the past few years and also thinks it's great for the community.
New this year, the food vendors were located in a separate room, and attendees were given tickets to allow them to sample the food.
Candy Koo of Panda Express served orange chicken. She's been participating in the expo for a couple of years, and hopes it translates into more customers. 'People took all my coupons,' she said, so she hopes they will use them.
The Big Expo is Coweta's largest trade show and is organized each year by the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, and was presented this year by Delta Community Credit Union.
'We think the value we create is just phenomenal for the people that exhibit and for the people who come to be part of it,' said Chamber President Candace Boothby.
