Man arrested for assault with shotgun
A man suspected by Coweta authorities of firing a shotgun in an attempt to win an argument was arrested Sunday night.
According to Lt. Col. Jimmy Yarbrough, around 11 p.m. Sunday Justin Lee Osgood, 22, followed two people, a man and his girlfriend to their residence on the 5000-block of Lower Fayetteville Road.
Osgood and the man started arguing earlier by the pool at the Best Western Shenandoah Inn, Yarbrough said. When the man and his girlfriend left to go home, Osgood was not finished arguing and followed after them, he said.
According to Yarbrough, Osgood met the two outside their residence and fired a shotgun at the ground in their direction. Either a pellet ricocheted or a rock was kicked up and struck the girlfriend in the leg, Yarbrough said. Osgood fled and the man dialed 911 giving Osgood’s and his vehicle’s description, the lieutenant said.
On Highway 16, sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Yarbrough saw the vehicle matching the description and pulled over Osgood. When Deputy Yarbrough approached the window, he noticed a shotgun inside the vehicle and Osgood was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.
The girlfriend who was struck was not injured badly, Yarbrough said. She did not even remain on the scene when deputies arrived. That was because she had an outstanding warrant for her arrest in another county, the lieutenant said.
