Singleton earns All-America honors
Matthew Singleton, a nine year-old fourth grade student at Moreland Elementary, recently completed a sweep of All-American honors at the Greco/Freestyle National Championships in Orem, Utah, while wrestling in the 65-pound Intermediate Division.
Singleton finished third in the Freestyle National Championships and fifth in Greco Roman. His latest achievements followed a third-place effort in April at the Folkstyle National Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa, earning him All-American status.
Singleton finished the season tied with a No. 1 ranking among USA Wrestling’s Future Olympians of America.
Over the past two seasons, he has captured state championships and Southeast Regional Championships in all three styles. He’s added a Central Plains Regional Championship in Freestyle and Greco Roman while also earning honors at the Missouri Preseason Nationals, the AAU Spring Nationals, the TOA Georgia Grind, the Interstate 64 Classic, the tour of Georgia Belt and the tour of Alabama Belt. He placed second at the Tulsa Open and third at both the Dixie and East Coast nationals.
Singleton, who began his career with the local Coweta Cobras out of Newnan, currently competes for Compound Wrestling in McDonough.
He is an A-student at Moreland Elementary.
