Effort may be in works to restore 1927 structure

Near the close of the most recent Grantville City Council meeting, Councilwoman Rochelle Jabaley talked about some of the town’s “jewels,” including the school auditorium building built in 1927. Mention of the auditorium brought a rare point of agreement between Jabaley and the other woman on the council, Selma Coty. Though Coty and Jabaley had been on different sides of issues all evening, both agreed the auditorium is a treasure and one worth saving. "It is a gem in this community, and we should seriously consider restoring the old auditorium,” Jabaley said. At one point, an engineer had deemed the building beyond repair, but both Coty and Jabaley took a different stance on Monday. "I certainly think it’s feasible,” Coty said of the restoration.
