Pavilion work nearly done

“We’re plowing along at the pavilion,” said Newnan Convention Center Authority Director Parks Avery.
The authority members received a construction update at their meeting Thursday evening. The Newnan Centre city meeting facility officially opened in June adjacent to the Coweta County School System’s Centre for Performing and Visual Arts. Walkways and the pavilion will connect the two facilities, located off Lower Fayetteville Road.
“From the outside it looks like it is finished. But inside it’s not,” Avery said of the pavilion.
“They are finishing up internal stuff,” he added. “The glass is finished, and the concrete inside has been polished.”
Avery also gave an update on the proposed second entrance on Lower Fayetteville Road for the city meeting facility. It is planned to ease traffic, especially when both the performing arts center and the Newnan Centre both have events.
“The company doing the engineering has been out and done a survey,” he said. “They’ve updated the preliminary drawing. The project is moving along pretty well according to them.”
Newnan Centre Executive Director Carol Moore updated the authority on the event business the Centre has been seeing since opening.
“I can tell you business is picking up,” she said. “The wedding market is really strong. We could have a wedding every week.”
Even with business moving along, Moore expressed interest in picking up more in other areas.
“We are pushing for the corporate business during the week,” she said.
Corporate business would bring more businesses for lunches, seminars, and other meetings during the week.
Newnan Convention Center Authority’s next meeting is Sept. 19. at the Newnan Centre.
