Newnan Fire Dept. Revives Nearly Drowned Child

by Wes Mayer

A three-year-old child found at the bottom of a swimming pool was saved after Newnan Fire Department personnel revived him in time.

Around 8:30 p.m. Friday, NFD received a call from SummerGrove Community that a child had been found unmoving at the bottom of the pool on Fairway Drive, Battalion Chief Jeff Patterson said. Engine 2 from the Lower Fayetteville station arrived two minutes later and found the mother attempting to give the child CPR.

According to Patterson, Firefighter Richard Scott quickly stepped in to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and a minute later, the child’s stomach swelled, and he spat out water. Life Flight was called, and landed on a nearby ball field two minutes later and then took the child to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital.

Patterson said the child appeared in good condition and had gone from being blue in the face to crying and spitting out water.
