Newnan paving to begin Monday
Construction is scheduled to begin Monday on the resurfacing of various streets throughout Newnan.
A total of 33 streets are included, with an equivalent length of 7.314 centerline miles, said city spokeswoman Gina Snider.
The contract price for the work is $772,493.83, and includes approximately $348,000 in funds through the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant program administered by the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The balance will be paid through the city’s Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax funds. For these projects, the city is required to provide a match of 30 percent due to the fact the Three Rivers regional transportation tax or TSPLOST referendum failed to pass. The Three Rivers region includes Coweta County. The previous match requirement had been 10 percent, Snider said.
Several streets will be milled prior to resurfacing in order to maintain or restore cross slopes to match existing gutters. Some streets, such as LaGrange Street and Parks Avenue, had been resurfaced numerous times without removing previous lifts of asphalt and that build-up of asphalt has impacted drainage and transitions to driveways and intersecting streets. Among other streets to be milled are Cardinal Drive, The Boulevard, Calumet Parkway, and Ball Street.
A full list of streets to be paved is available on the City’s website, www.cityofnewnan.org .
Work is scheduled for substantial completion by Oct. 20. The contractor is Baldwin Paving Co, Inc.
The city maintains approximately 160 centerlines of streets.
