The Coweta County Fire Department fought a fire that started early Tuesday and continued into the afternoon.

At 9:29 a.m., the CCFD received a call in reference to a house fire at 263 Bruce Jackson Road, Assistant Chief Mitch Coggin said. Crews arrived on the scene at 9:34 to find the two-story home 50 percent engulfed in flames. Five fire engine crews, a ladder truck and one fire rescue crew arrived at the scene during the height of the fire.

According to Coggin, there was already a deep-seated attic fire when firefighters arrived, and the fire appeared to have originated in the home's garage and spread through the breezeway into the home. The owner of the home was safely evacuated.

Crews attacked the attic and were able to extinguish the fire, but they had to remain on the scene to put out hotspots for the next few hours, Coggins said. No firefighters received any injuries, but the home is a total loss.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature and is currently under investigation.
