Juveniles arrested for gang activity

Three juveniles were arrested after being linked to a street gang responsible for hijacking vehicles in Peachtree City.

According to a press release from Lt. Mark Brown with the Peachtree City Police Department, investigations following the arrest of Zaviaire Baitley, 16, of Atlanta, on July 6 have led to the arrests of Demetrious Watson, 16, of Palmetto, Nathan Gullatte, 16, also of Palmetto, and Michael Long, 14, of Union City. All four were charged with armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle and participation in a criminal street gang.

Around 2:30 p.m. on July 6, Peachtree City officers responded to a call about an armed hijacking in the parking lot of Walmart off Georgia Highway 54. Officers set up a perimeter in the city and later sighted the suspect, later identified as Baitley, driving the stolen vehicle traveling northbound on Georgia Highway 74. The suspect failed to stop for the officers and a chase ensued.

Officers from the Tyrone Police Department, Fairburn Police Department, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and Fulton County Police Department assisted in the pursuit. Baitley managed to avoid the Stop Sticks deployed by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and sent the chase northbound on I-85 to I-285. Baitley got in a minor collision while exiting the interstate at Cascade Road and officers were able to take him into custody, Brown said.

Baitley also faces charges of attempting to elude and flee police officers, numerous traffic charges and an illegal possession of narcotics. The four juveniles were being held at a regional youth detention center.
