If you live in the city of Newnan, please put this story on your refrigerator.
How and when your garbage, bulk trash and yard debris is picked up is changing — and it starts today (Monday).
Waste Management, which was awarded the city contract, will collect garbage and recycling. Newnan city crews now will pick up yard debris and bulk waste.
The biggest change is that all garbage, recycling, yard waste and debris will be picked up on the same day. Previously, those pick-ups varied throughout the week.
Rates will remain the same, but pick-up days are changing as well. Pick-ups will now be conducted Monday through Thursday.
An online map at the city’s website showing the new districts and routes is located here: http://www.cityofnewnan.org/business/public_works/docs/NewnanTrashDays_MAPS.pdf
Waste Management has sent out several flyers notifying residents of the changes and of their new collection days.

There are also a few changes on pick-up days in parts of the unincorporated area of Coweta County, and residents should have received postcards about those changes as well.

For yard debris and bulk waste, the city has a list of banned/ prohibited items:

• Tires

• Batteries

• Paint thinner

• Motor oil

• Gasoline

• Paint or paint cans (excluding empty paint cans or paint cans filled with absorbents to dry out the paint)

• Bulky items such as appliances containing chlorofluorocarbon refrigerants or Freon

Placement guidelines are:

Don’t block sidewalks or the street when setting out yard debris and bulk waste items.

Take care when setting out yard debris so that it does not block drains or otherwise wash into a storm drain and ultimately into a creek or stream.

Anyone with questions regarding yard debris and bulk waste service should contact the City of Newnan directly at 770-253-0237 or visit www.ci.newnan.ga.us .

Anyone with questions regarding regular garbage and recycling services and billing should contact Waste Industries at 770-474-9273 or visit www.wasteindustries.com .
