Ga. Power granted easement on Senoia city property

The Senoia Mayor and City Council moved quickly Monday through a brief agenda highlighted by approval of a power easement and a parade celebrating the opening of youth baseball season in Senoia.
After approving minutes of the Feb. 4 regular meeting and Feb. 14 called meeting of the mayor and council, a request from Georgia Power to be granted an additional easement on city property in downtown Senoia was heard.
“As a result of this project, Georgia Power will be upgrading the existing distribution lines to improve reliability in the Sharpsburg and Senoia areas along Main Street, Matthews Street, Stallings Road, and McIntosh Trail,” Hamman said.
He provided the city as an attachment to his letter the Georgia Power standard distribution easement with an Exhibit A diagram showing the locations of the lines and the required Georgia Power easement for the property. The easement describes the property rights Georgia Power needs to acquire for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the line.
The easement was approved unanimously by mayor and council.
In other business:
• An agenda item concerning a request that the city run a sewer extension and other infrastructure necessary to provide sanitary sewer service to Big Jim’s Wing Shack was delayed until the business provides a formal written request outlining exactly what service is being requested and what action would be required by the city.
• Approved was a request for a parade through downtown Senoia to mark the beginning of the Senoia youth baseball season. A spokeswomen for the organization said the parade would begin at the same time and follow the same route as last year’s event.
• Scott Tigchelaar, speaking for the Downtown Development Authority, announced that this year’s Memorial Day celebration on May 27 will be called the “Memorial Day Remembrance and Festival.”
