Main Street Newnan recently held its annual banquet at the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society’s Depot History Center building on East Broad Street.
More than 115 Main Street Newnan members, corporate sponsors, program volunteers, staff and elected officials celebrated the accomplishments of 2012 and learned of the numerous initiatives planned for 2013.
The Rochelle Norred Excellence in Historic Preservation award was presented to Valerie Dumas, owner and operator of Gillyweed, 8 Jefferson St., which offers artisanal products with vintage and coastal flair.
The redevelopment project consisted of removing the existing non-contributing façade from the structure to expose the original materials still present. Interior improvements included removing existing carpet to expose concrete floors, removing existing walls to expose original materials, as well as ceiling repair and the installation of future displays. The historic character of 8 Jefferson Street was retained and preserved.

In addition, Main Street Newnan members elected new board members for 2013. Presiding over the nomination and election was Bob Reid, 2012 president and owner/operator of P.S.S. Signs.

The following individuals were elected to serve in 2013: president, Scott Waller of Edward Jones; vice president, Ian Goldenberg of C.S. Toggery; secretary, Betty Boylston of Smart Solutions; Cecelia Hilton of Fine Lines Art and Framing; Valerie Dumas of Gillyweed; Tim Higgins of Higgins and Smith CPA; and Jan Teasley of BB&T.
