The date of the American Legion commander’s visit to Newnan is Jan. 26, not Jan. 25.
Information submitted by the local American Legion Post had the wrong date listed for an article that appeared this weekend in The Newnan Times-Herald.
Newnan’s American Legion Post 57 has been selected to host a luncheon during the annual visit of the Legion’s national commander, James E. Koutz, according to Newnan Post Commander Dick Dennis.
The Newnan Post was chosen to host the event by the American Legion Department of Georgia. Koutz, of Indiana, was elected to his post at the national convention in August 2012 and will serve the traditional term of one year.
The leadership of the American Legion, the largest veterans service organization in the nation, provides Commander Koutz the opportunity to visit many American Legion posts and personally hear from the legionnaires about programs, successes and problems, Legion officials said.
The Newnan luncheon honoring Koutz will be held on Jan. 26 at the Newnan American Legion Post on U.S. Hwy. 29 north. Newnan Post Commander Dennis and his staff expect Legion dignitaries from across the state to attend.

“This is a real honor for us to host our National Commander and we want it to be a visit he will long remember,” Dennis said.

“He will learn that we are a part of a caring community of patriotic citizens who unselfishly support us in all our efforts and achievements.”

Koutz will speak about the current programs that the American Legion is pursuing and offer his personal views and priorities for VA and other government veterans issues.

Dennis urged members of Post 57 to attend and show support for the special visit of the National Commander. “We are more than just a post, we are a Legion family of men, women and some children, all dedicated to providing service to veterans, our community and our nation,” Dennis said.

Dennis requested members planning to attend to call the post at 770-251-6949.
