Two people, including a young girl, were in critical condition after a Saturday night wreck in Newnan that sent at least six people to area hospitals.
A family of six was returning home after leaving the Redneck Gourmet where they had dinner. Their vehicle was broadsided by a full-size truck at the intersection of Lower Fayetteville Road and Newnan Crossing Bypass, according to Sergeant Lane Yearta with the Newnan Police Department.
The family was in an eastbound Toyota Sienna van on Lower Fayetteville when the driver of the truck, which was southbound on Newnan Crossing, ran a red light and struck the driver's side area, the sergeant said, adding it appeared the impact caused the van to do a complete 360 degree spin.
Police are not releasing any names at this point, but Yearta said the truck driver told police his brakes failed. The vehicles were impounded by police and the investigation is ongoing.

Four adults in the van were taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital and have since been released, Yearta said. One adult in the van was flown by air ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center in critical condition. The girl had to be extricated from the van and was flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. She was also was in critical condition.

"Charges are pending ... there were numerous witnesses," Yearta said.
