No one injured in bus accident

A school bus carrying members of the East Coweta swim team was slightly damaged in a Dec. 15 accident on Interstate 85, but none of the students or coaches on the bus were injured, according to Dean Jackson, Public Information Officer for the Coweta County Board of Education.
“One student said her knee was sore and her parents had it checked out, but she was back at swim practice Monday,” Jackson said.
Following the collision, the bus driver pulled to the side of the road and called school officials to report the incident, Jackson said.
Fairburn police and paramedics responded to the scene. All students were checked by paramedics and found to be fine, except for one that complained of a knee injury, Jackson said. Damage to the bus was considered minor and confined to the rea of the rear fender and bumper.
EC Athletic Director Ken Kesselring went to the scene of the accident and also contacted parents of all the students to inform them of the incident and report on the students’ physical condition.
As the bus was parked on I-85, a Coweta County school bus mechanic happened to pass by, saw the vehicle and called to see if he could offer help. He turned around, went back to the bus and helped check the vehicle out, agreeing with the original driver that the bus was safe.
The bus returned to the East Coweta campus at approximately 7:45 p.m. School officials made sure parents were notified and remained behind until all students had left the campus safely.
