Although no action items appeared on the Coweta County Board of Education’s Dec. 11 agenda as of Friday, the proposed 2013-14 and 2014-15 school calendars may be set at the meeting.
Two proposed calendars for each year have been posted online for several weeks as the school board encouraged comments from parents, school councils, administrators, teachers and the community. Superintendent of Schools Steve Barker said he will present feedback to board members for discussion.
“Depending on the direction that discussion takes, we could go ahead and approve calendars,” Barker said.
In addition to hearing regular construction and facilities, budget, sales tax and attendance reports, the board will:
• Recognize Jefferson Parkway Elementary School, Evans Middle School and Arnall Middle School as Georgia Department of Education Title I High Progress Rewards Schools.

• Hear from Coweta County School System Special Education Services administrator Gina Murray, who will present the data determination for compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

“The state comes in and evaluates our service model to see if we meet all indicators for IDEA,” Barker said. “We have gotten the report back and we have met all indicators.”

• Forward a reminder about residence affidavits, which are due at the beginning of 2013.

“We’re doing them now and have been working on them since around October,” said Barker.

“Students should have them completed by the end of the first semester so they can come back for second semester.”

The school board meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Board of Education building, 237 Jackson Street in Newnan.
