The weather was a bit warm for snow, but floats in the City of Newnan’s Christmas Parade Sunday offered thoughts of wintry weather, sleighs, elves and holiday spirit.
One float even created its own simulated snowfall in “Peaceville.”
This year’s theme was a “Merry Musical Christmas,” and several entries included recorded music, performers on instruments, dancers and singing groups — in addition to performances by the East Coweta, Newnan and Northgate high school bands.
There were also plenty of colorful costumed characters — and plenty of candy for the youngsters in the crowd of onlookers along the route through downtown and the Court Square and out LaGrange Street to Newnan High School.
The 2012 prize-winning floats were announced by Gina Snider, city public information officer, who coordinated this year’s parade. All winners will receive a $150 cash prize, she said.
In addition, a People’s Choice float is being voted on the city’s Facebook page through Wednesday and will be announced Thursday out of the four winners in the various categories. All winners and honorable mentions received plaques, Snider said.

The float winners are:

• Non- Profit/ Civic Category

—Winner: Boys Scout Troop Pack 47.

—Honorable Mention: Coweta County Visitors Bureau.

• Large Business

—Winner: Air Force Heating and Air.

—Honorable Mention: Home Depot.

• Small Business Category

—Winner: Hi- 5 Porta Potties.

—Honorable Mention: Grannie Fannie’s.

• Church/ School

—Winner: Born Again Ministries.

—Honorable Mention: First United Methodist Church.

For those who might have missed the parade, or those who want to see the festivities again, the parade is replaying all this week on NuLink cable channel 10. Scheduled play times are daily 7:30 a.m., 3 p.m., 8 p.m., and 11:30 p.m.
