The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 21 percent of the more than one million adults or adolescents with HIV infection don’t even know they are infected.
Hayla Hall Folden, risk communicator for District 4 Health Services, has announced that the Coweta County Health Department will offer free and confidential HIV testing Saturday in conjunction with World AIDS Day Dec. 1.
The testing will be offered between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Call 770-254-7400 for an appointment time. The health department is located at 70 Hospital Rd. in Newnan.
According to the CDC, one way to help prevent the spread of HIV is for people to know their HIV status.
HIV Testing will be done without the use of a needle and results will be available in about 20 minutes. All testing will be completely confidential. The first 20 people to make an appointment will receive a free gift card once testing is complete.
A follow-up visit will be scheduled for anyone who tests positive and counseling will be made available to those individuals.
