Noted genealogist Kenneth H. Thomas Jr. will be the speaker for the annual Christmas dinner sponsored by the Coweta County Genealogical Society.
The dinner will be held Dec. 8 at 11:30 a.m. at the Youth Building at the rear of Unity Baptist Church on Smokey Road. Tickets to the luncheon are $20 each, and the registration deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 5.
To get tickets for the meal, call 678-521-2974. Thomas is scheduled to speak at 1:30 p.m., and people may attend Thomas’ talk without attending the luncheon.
A native of Columbus, Thomas is a graduate of Emory University. He has had an interest in genealogy since the early 1960s when he was in high school.
From 1973 until his retirement in 2006 he was a historian in the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, working with the National Register of Historic Places program. That state job had no connection to his genealogy work or his free-lance work with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Through his work on the genealogy of Jimmy Carter, his genealogy expertise came to the attention of the Journal-Constitution staff.

The Decatur resident is a frequent lecturer on genealogy and history.

“We will serve a delicious dinner of ham and turkey with all the ‘fixings,’” said CCGS member Dianne Webb.
