The Southern Living “Idea House” in Senoia – decked out in its Christmas finery – is open through Dec. 23.
A restored and enlarged farm house that dates from the 1830s, the Idea House opened last summer and donned its holiday dressings in October.
“The Idea House is doing great,” said Scott Tigchelaar of Senoia Enterprises, which owns the house.
Tigchelaar said foot traffic may surpass numbers from the the 2010 Idea House, a brownstone-style townhouse also located in Senoia.
The oldest part of the 2012 Idea House was assembled using wooden pegs, and hand-planed paneling remains on the walls, Tigchelaar said.
Roughly one-third of the house dates from around 1900, and the newest third is new construction, added during its transformation into the Idea House.
“It looks beautiful. People are loving it,” Tigchelaar said.
The Idea House has been “very successful in bringing people to Senoia and introducing them to the town,” he said. “If you go by the comments, we’re getting folks from every state in the union,” he said. “I think that’s just been great not only for the exposure of the town but for the merchants here in town. It’s a boon for them because that is pretty much 30,000 shoppers and diners.”

The house is open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and from 1-5 p.m. Sundays.

The charitable beneficiary of this year’s Idea House is Zac Brown’s Camp Southern Ground.

The Idea House is near the south end of downtown Senoia, just off Hwy. 16 and east of Hwy. 85.
