Master Gardeners selling 400 wreaths

The Master Gardener Extension Volunteers of Coweta County are assembling 400 Christmas wreaths for sale locally.

The Ag Building at the Coweta County Fairgrounds smells a lot better now than it did during the fair.
The building houses livestock displays during the annual Kiwanis-sponsored Coweta County Fair, but right now members of the Master Gardener Extension Volunteers are clipping sprigs of North Carolina Fraser Fir, making 400 wreaths for the community as a fundraiser.
There are about 100 Master Gardener volunteers in Coweta, and this is the seventh year they have made the wreaths.
"Most of them are already sold (before they are made)," according to Donna Dietz, wreath project manager. The volunteers were working during the last week on pre-orders.
The MGEV members worked all week (except Thanksgiving day) and will be selling the wreaths at the Ag Building for another week.
All pre-sales have been completed. Walk-in sales will be Nov. 26-30 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Ag Building, as long as supplies last. The fairgrounds are on Pine Road south of Newnan. Any other available wreaths will be sold Dec. 1 at Market Day in on the Court Square in downtown Newnan.
"You even get to choose your bow," said Dietz.

Smaller 20-inch wreaths and swags are $25, and the larger 24-inch wreaths are $40.

The association has also donated four wreaths for the historic Coweta County Courthouse in downtown Newnan, two on the east side and two on the west side.

The Master Gardeners buy the trees at the State Farmer's Market. Then they put the wreaths and swags together and make the 400 bows.

The money goes for scholarships and for 4-H and Coweta Exension Service programs.

Last year the MGEVs awarded four $1,600 scholarships to high school seniors interested in studying anything connected with environmental science.
