McDonald's lists calorie counts
McDonald's restaurants nationwide are now listing calorie counts for food items on menu boards.
The change is intended to inform customers and help customers and employees make nutrition-minded choices.
In addition to menu board labeling, McDonald's published its first-ever nutrition progress report and revealed several 2013 menu innovations in testing that will include recommended food groups from the US. Department of Agriculture's 2010 "Dietary Guidelines for Americans," reflected in the messages supporting MyPlate.
"At McDonald's, we recognize customers want to know more about the nutrition content of the food and beverages they order," said Donavon Groen, president of the Greater Atlanta McDonald's Operator's Association. "As a company that has provided nutrition information for more than 30 years, we are pleased to add to the ways we make nutrition information available to our customers and employees in Atlanta and throughout the U.S."

Affinis Hospice holds ribbon cutting

A ribbon cutting was recently held for Affinis Hospice, located on Calumet Parkway, Newnan.

Affinis Hospice believes that people diagnosed with terminal illnesses deserve to live pain and symptom free, surrounded by the comfort and love of family and friends. Affinis staff can administer to the needs of patients in the comfort of their own homes, or at in-patient centers.

J. Smith Lanier ranked by Business Insurance

Business Insurance, a national risk management insurance magazine, has reported that J. Smith Lanier was ranked number 23 among the 100 largest brokerage firms in the U.S., based on brokerage revenues generated by U.S.-based clients.

Delta receives Employer Support Freedom Award

Delta Airlines was one of 15 employers to receive the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to employers for their outstanding support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

There were more than 3,200 nominations for the 2012 Freedom Award. A selection board comprised of senior Department of Defense officials, business leaders and prior award winners selected the recipients. Since 1996, only 175 employers have received the Freedom Award.

Barber Allstate Agency moves

The Mike Barber Allstate Agency has moved to a new location.

The agency was formerly located on Old Atlanta Highway and is now located on Bullsboro Drive.

Great Expressions Dental named one of America's fastest-growing companies

"Inc." magazined ranked Great Expressions Dental Centers number 1,132 on its sixth annual Inc 500/5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation's fastest growing private companies. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Michigan-based dental company has been named to the premier publication's list.

Great Expressions moved up nearly 500 positions, from 1,618 in 2011 to 1,132 in 2012. This increase in ranking has placed Great Expressions in the top 25 percent of the fastest growing private companies in America. The list ranks entrepreneurs and growth companies based on revenue growth.

"The past three years have been challenging for all businesses," said Great Expressions CEO Richard E. Beckman. "The fact that we've continued to grow shows a particular resilience."

Great Expressions is a privately owned dental service organization with 200 affiliated dental practices in nine states, including one in Newnan.
