“Gentlemen, begin ringing your bells!”
This was the message from local Salvation Army representative Stephanie May to the members of White Oak Golden Kiwanis at a recent meeting as the bell-ringing season for the Salvation Army commences.
Last year $51,280 was given through the kettles here in Coweta County. The goal this year is $70,000.
Of the total raised last year, the WOGK members collected $8,104.
All funds raised are spent here in this county, it was noted.
As an added measure, and to the delight of the group, Major Larry Repass addressed the group of Golden K Kiwanis members by impersonating Gen. William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army.
Repass painted the picture of a Methodist minister in London beginning a ministry of the Gospel of Christ to the poor and forgotten people by meeting both their physical and spiritual needs.
“WOGK is proud to work with the Salvation Army and wishes to express their collective gratitude to the work done in our community and throughout the world,” said club spokesman Matt Thomson.
