Originally a benefit event, the Nov. 17 concert for “Cause for Korey” will now be a celebration of the life of Korey Latham.
The three-year-old Manchester boy had been supported in his fight against a rare cancer by his many friends in Newnan. Korey died Tuesday within weeks of taking a Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World. In June 2011, Korey was first diagnosed with a stage IV neuroblastoma and had suffered a relapse in August of this year.
The Saturday concert at Newnan High School’s Drake Stadium will help the family pay for funeral costs, says organizer Kristi Bales. She extends a “big thank you” to the community for having supported her young friend.
Gates at Drake Stadium will open at 11 a.m. with music beginning at 11:30. Performers will include country singer Doug Stone, and up-and-coming singer Corbette Jackson.
Stone, a Newnan native, will be part of the “Reliving the ‘90s Tour” next year. The Reliving tour features country performers Bryan White and Shenandoah.
Jackson, also from Newnan, is currently working on his debut album in Nashville at EMI Studios on Music Row.

Other musicians taking the stage will be Trenton Ewing, Lance Mapp, Jessie Cintron, David Leon and Justine Kelley. Tickets may be purchased at the gate, or at www.causeforkorey.weebly.com .

Adult admission is $20 each, children between the ages of 5 and 12 will be admitted for $12 each, and children under 4 are admitted for free.

The event will include children’s activities Korey would have enjoyed, including clowns, face painting, pony rides and a jump house.

A car show featuring “hundreds” of cars will run from 1-5 p.m. Vendors will have food available for purchase.

Those attending may also bring canned goods for the needy. “We’re going to donate the cans to Bridging the Gap,” said Bales.

Funeral arrangements for Korey Latham are pending.
