The Peachtree City Police Department recently won first place in its category in the Governor’s Challenge Traffic Safety Awards.
In the same competition, the department also won the Technology Award “for innovative and effective use of technology in promoting traffic safety,” according to a department press release. The awards were announced on Nov. 9.
The Governor’s Challenge recognizes exceptional efforts in traffic safety and promoting best uses of recognized law enforcement practices. Agencies are judged on the approach and effectiveness of their safety programs.
“Agencies are evaluated not just for enforcement initiatives, but for innovative problem solving in their communities, using public information and education activities, and creating departmental policies that support their traffic safety efforts,” it was stated in a press release.
“This competition is a unique way for law enforcement agencies to improve their efforts to save lives and prevent traffic injuries.”

Earlier this year, the department was also awarded third place at the International Association of Chiefs of Police National Law Enforcement Challenge, another traffic safety recognition program.

For more information on the department’s traffic safety efforts, contact Lt. Matt Myers at traffic@peachtree-city.org or call 770-487-8866. Traffic concerns or complaints may also be submitted at www.peachtree-city.org/traffic .
