Old South fest to feature 24 competing bands, exhibition

The Old South Marching Band Competition returns to Newnan High School Saturday.
The 2012 festival will feature 24 competing bands and exhibition performances by the Jackson State University band and Newnan High School Marching Cats host band. In addition, the bands from East Coweta and Northgate high schools will be competing, bringing all three of Coweta County’s public high schools together for performances in a single day.
Admission is $7 for the day-long festival. Parking is free and there will be vendors and food concessions for band students and fans to enjoy between performances. Anyone needing more information may contact Lissa Rand in the Newnan High School Music Department at 770-254-2885.
Bands to perform Saturday at Newnan High’s Drake Stadium are:
Class A, with division starting at noon — Henry County High School, McDonough; Mary Persons High School, Forsyth; Washington-Wilkes High School, Washington; Southwestern High School, Somerset, KY; Pike County High School, Zebulon; Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy, McDonough.
Class AA, following a 1:30 break and the division starting at 1:45 — Sumter High School, Sumter, SC; East Paulding High School, Dallas; Upson-Lee High School, Thomaston; Johns Creek High School, Johns Creek.
Class AAA, following a 2:45 break and the division starting 3 p.m. — Lithia Springs High School, Lithia Springs; Rockdale County High School, Conyers; Cartersville High School, Cartersville; McIntosh High School, Peachtree City; Berkmar High School, Lilburn; Roswell High School, Roswell.
Class AAAA, following a 4:30 dinner break and the division starting 5:30 p.m. — Dalton High School, Dalton; Walnut Grove High School, Loganville; Habersham Central High School, Mt. Airy; Milton High School, Milton; Northgate High School, Newnan.
CLASS AAAAA, with division starting at 7:10 p.m. — East Coweta High School, Sharpsburg; Lassiter High School, Marietta; North Cobb High School, Kennesaw.
The Newnan High School exhibition performance is scheduled for 8:10 p.m.

Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, AL, will perform in exhibition at 8:30 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at 8:55 p.m.
