Grantville’s Great Bowls of Fire Chili Cookoff, scheduled for today, has been canceled.
“As of today, we just didn’t have any replies back for competition,” Sandy Luttrell, the event’s coordinator, said Friday. “We couldn’t believe it. It was pretty big last year and we expected it to be even larger this year.”
Other chili cookoffs in the area may have had an effect on participation in the Grantville event, Luttrell said, but “I don’t know whether that had anything to do with it.”
Luttrell said the event likely will be rescheduled.
“I’m not sure when, but we’ll probably try again,” she said. “Maybe not this year, but maybe next year we’ll give it a try again.”
The cookoff and related events were scheduled from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and were to feature “a Western theme with a Halloween flair.” Chefs would have competed for trophies and cash prizes.
“We had fabulous music planned,” Luttrell said. “We had everything in place except competitors.”
Grantville’s 5K Zombie Run – planned as a tandem downtown event for Saturday – was canceled earlier this month.
