With 10 perfect-weather days — the best weather in more than 40 years — the 2012 Coweta County Fair was another huge success, according to Scott Cortner, Fair Committee chairman for the Newnan Kiwanis Club.
More than $161,000 was raised for local charities with a few dollars left over to make up for gaps in future revenue in case of rain.
“Most fairs take away from the community when they leave town, but ours leaves money to help an array of causes,” he said.
Also, interestingly, “Most fairs attract 15 percent of the population and we attracted roughly 25 percent, well above the norm, with attendance of 40,161 people going through the gates,” he said.
