Newnan’s American Legion Post 57, host of the local annual Veterans Day ceremonies, is seeking nominations for Veteran of the Year, according to Post Commander Dick Dennis.
Veterans Day is Nov. 11, but this year’s ceremonies will be held on Monday, Nov. 12, in keeping with this year’s federal holiday designation.
The criteria for nomination includes honorable military service with some emphasis on achievement or valor as well as service to community, church, or charities.
“We want to recognize a veteran who has been an exemplary citizen, someone who has tried to make a positive difference in the lives of others,” Dennis said. “In the military, awards are given for valor, achievement and faithful service. We of the American Legion want to continue that tradition for our veterans.”
Nominations may be submitted by individuals, groups or organizations. The submission can be in the form of a letter and need not be typed. Any supporting information, including pictures should be attached.
Completed nominations may be mailed to: American Legion Post 57; Attn: VOY; Post Office Box 544; Newnan, GA 30264.
Nominees must agree to participate in the Veterans Day ceremonies on Nov. 12 in Veterans Memorial Plaza, Jackson Street and Temple Avenue in Newnan.
