The Coweta County Republican Women’s Club is urging all Cowetans to help support our troops serving overseas by donating small-sized personal items that can be packaged in individual boxes and sent to the service personnel.
The group hopes to ship all items before Thanksgiving.
Items being requested include soap, toothpaste, deodorant, body wash, wet wipes and anything else you can think of to help make a soldier’s life better in the field.
The group received a nice surprise Saturday while collecting items at the 2012 Veterans Muster sponsored by the Coweta Association on Veterans Affairs at the Coweta County Fairgrounds. During the event a visiting U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who oversees operations at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport involving troops departing for overseas and returning home said he would arrange for the items to be carried on military transport planes, saving money on postage and shipping costs.
Those interested in donating items should contact club President Maegan Brass at maegan.brass@gmail.com or deliver items in person to Coweta Republican Party headquarters at 19 Perry St. in the Commercial House in downtown Newnan.
