End to work in sight: Bypass close to completion

Drivers along the Hwy. 34 Bypass in Newnan soon should be seeing some marked progress.
The new traffic light at Hillwood Circle went into “flash mode” last week and is set to go into full operation on Tuesday.
The only area of that section of the road that won’t be able to be opened is the second left-turn lane at Jefferson Parkway/Calumet. “We will only open the dual left turn once the appropriate signals are hung to control the left-only movement,” said Kimberly Larson, regional spokeswoman for GDOT.
On the other end of the project, the new traffic signal at Hospital Road has been installed. “The traffic signal at Hospital Road should be ready for inspection by GDOT Traffic Operations on Tuesday, when they return to check the signal operation of Hillwood,” Larson said.
Once that light passes inspection, it will go into flash mode. After seven days, it can go into operation. “Once this happens, we should be able to open everything except the dual left turn lanes at the intersection of U.S. 29 and the Bypass, and Jefferson and the Bypass,” Larson said.
“We still have some signing, marking, and signal work to complete. All paving should be completed.”
