There are several ways to contact the Coweta County Voter Registration Office and get information about your voter registration status and early voting.
Following a Sound Off comment to The Newnan Times-Herald regarding contacting the office, Coweta officials were asked to respond to the assertions in the comment, which stated: “If you call, you can never get a person and the fax number listed on the website never works.”
Calls to the office’s number, at 770-254-2615, are automatically answered by a voicemail system that lists several options for obtaining information. Callers can always press 0 to reach a live person.
“We have had hundreds of phone calls and I feel that the system is very user-friendly,” said Chief Registrar Joan Hamilton.
“We work to try and get the information to citizens in several different ways but also in the quickest, most efficient manner possible,” said Patricia Palmer, Coweta’s public affairs director. “The telephone message tree includes dates of early voting, how to see a ballot, information on registering and polling places,” she said. “This information answers a huge majority of the questions that citizens generally have.”

“Like many phone tree systems, you can press 0 at any time in the message and get to a staff member,” Palmer said. “The phone tree helps provide answers to the most commonly-asked questions. At this time of year, many people are visiting the office and staff are working hard to answer their questions and to process all the information that is coming into the office,” she said. During this election cycle, there have been a lot of calls coming in, including some from as far away as Australia, Afghanistan, and Turkey.

Palmer said she wasn’t sure what fax number the Sound Off writer was referencing. “We did not have a fax number on the website, especially one specific to voter registration,” she said. “Because of the Sound Off, we have added the new fax number that they have in the office, along with repairing a broken link that I found.”

Information about voter registration is also available on the county’s website, www.coweta.ga.us , including on the voter registration page, the elections page, and the “in the spotlight” section.

“And I just put a reminder on Facebook reminding folks of the deadline to register to vote,” Palmer said on Thursday.

For more information about registering to vote, early voting, or to check the status of your registration, call 770-254-2615. You can also e-mail jhamilton@coweta.ga.us .
