Paving has been completed on the Highway 34 Bypass.
Crews were out Friday paving the remaining section, the right-hand, eastbound lane between Highway 70/Roscoe Road and U.S. 29.
That section had remained unpaved for quite some time, in part because of the need to consult with the Georgia Department of Transportation’s design division on a plan error.
On Thursday, paving crews paved Hospital Road near the intersection with the bypass, and signal crews were out earlier this week working on the new traffic signal at the intersection.
Signal crews were also seen working at the intersection with Roscoe Road.
The project is well behind schedule, as its original completion date was Dec. 31, 2011. The contractor, Sunbelt Structures, received a contract extension through Jan. 27 but has been penalized $1,000 a day since.
The section of the bypass between Bullsboro Drive and Jefferson Parkway has been open for more than a week now, and the westbound lanes are open to just west of the CSX Railroad bridge.

Officials with the GDOT have said that completion of the project is expected in “early fall.”
