Public hearing on Horror Hill TuesdayBy SARAH FAY CAMPBELL
A public hearing on the future of Horror Hill will be held Tuesday before the Coweta County Board of Commissioners.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and will be held in the county commission chambers on Perry Street in downtown Newnan.
The special use permit is required to allow Horror Hill, which originated in 1984, to continue to operate.
Coweta’s special events ordinance was put into place in 2011. Coweta Festivals Inc. previously had to obtain the special use permit to be able to continue to hold the Powers Festival, which began in 1971.
Horror Hill is located at 181 Ware Road.
The Coweta Planning Department is recommending denial of the request. If the permit is approved, the planning department is recommending several conditions, including the requirement that the property meet all requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as all requirements of the Coweta Fire Marshal’s Office.
Other items to come before the board include:
• Approval of the county budget for Fiscal Year 2013, which begins Oct. 1.
• A request to reduce the speed limit on Morgan Road.
• Recommendations regarding insurance renewal.
