Certified Literate is Coweta’s Key - CLICK - is currently recruiting volunteer tutors for its new basic adult education class.
Volunteers will spend “a few hours a week” working individually with adult learners to help improve their reading and writing skills, according to Lisa Johnston, director of CLICK.
“We hope to recruit some new volunteers to work along with our current volunteers,” Johnston said. “What we’re finding is that we’re getting a lot of calls from individuals who need help strengthening their reading skills.”
Grants recently awarded to CLICK by the Katz Family Foundation and Coweta-Fayette EMC will help fund volunteer tutor training, which Johnston said she hopes will begin in October.
“This will help us make sure our tutors can work effectively with adult learners one-on-one as opposed to in a classroom environment with students who need some extra help,” said Johnston.
Training will be conducted by Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta and will include orientation so volunteers can learn more about CLICK and its literacy programs. For information on volunteering, contact Johnston at 678-423-2000, Ext. 339.
