Fine art, vintage Powers' items for auction Thursday

Coweta Festivals Inc., the organization that has put on the Powers Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival for more than four decades, is holding an auction this week of fine art and vintage items from 41 years of the festival.
The charity auction will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. The auction will be held at the Depot History Center, the old train depot on East Broad Street in downtown Newnan.
Items to be sold include examples of the award-winning arts and crafts that have been exhibited at Powers Crossroads Festival over the years. More than 200 unique items will go up on the auction block.
A preview of the items will be held Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the depot building at 60 East Broad St.
The live auction Thursday, with auctioneer Doug Bennett of Bennett’s Auction and Antique Services, Tyrone, Ga., will be 6-11 p.m.

Member organizations that make up Coweta Festivals Inc. include the 4-H Boys and Girls of Coweta County, Newnan-Coweta Art Association, Newnan-Coweta Jaycees, the Pilot Club of Newnan and Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce. Over the years these organizations have pumped money from proceeds from the festival back into the community through local charitable programs.

Coweta Festivals Inc. made “purchase awards” from the juried festival over the years including a variety of fine arts and crafts.

Artwork:

• Oil paintings.

• Original Tom Powers and Harriet Alexander paintings. Powers founded the festival, and Mrs. Alexander was festival director for many years.

• Watercolors.

• Stained glass.

• Photography.

• Multi-media.

• Cabbage Patch cloth face doll, autographed.

• Hand-crafted items.

Antiques and vintage items:

• Antique NCR cash register model 349; from Joe Stephens’ store.

• Scales, floor and countertop.

• Vintage items such as farm tools, kitchenware, oil lamps, Mason jars, baskets and more.
